Harbor Springs
Harbor Springs is a charming waterfront resort community that lies in a sheltered bay on the north shore of Little Traverse Bay on Lake Michigan. The village is surrounded by an abundance of natural beauty and is known for being a four-season city. The downtown, with its quaint storefronts and walkable blocks, offers many cultural and culinary attractions.
Because of a deflection in the street grid, East Main Street offers a terminated vista at the Holy Childhood of Jesus Catholic Church. This simple historic church (and its prominent steeple) provides enclosure to the streetspace and serves as a transitional element from the core downtown into less dense residential neighborhoods.
Harbor Springs is also home to many well-executed urban infill projects that carefully considered the local context as part of their design and implementation - one of them is the Bay Street Cottages, a cottage court infill project that arrayed tiny houses around a green courtyard.
